Philippians: Basis of Christian Unity
In order to effectively communicate, teachers, preachers, and public speakers have to understand the concept of personal distance. Some take advantage of the authority that a podium or a stage can offer. But an engaging speaker will overcome the physical and psychological distance and establish an emotional bond with the audience by appealing to them on a personal level.
Even though the apostle Paul was writing from a far-off prison cell, he spoke to the church in Philippi with the personal affection of a man standing arm-in-arm with his spiritual family. This church was especially dear to Paul, and his message for them was unity.
That unity is important for us as well. This month in Today in the Word, we will study Paul's letter to the Philippians as if it were a passionate letter written just for us. A word of caution: prepare to be humbled. As we read of Paul's humble circumstances in prison and Christ's humiliation for our salvation, we'll discover that true humility is the only hope for Christian unity. Paul will also show us that depending on our own works and strength will prevent us from enjoying oneness with Christ and harmony with our brothers and sisters who make up His body.
So join us in another soul-enriching study through God's Word, and accept our heartfelt thanks for reading and supporting Today in the Word. We are humbled by your kind words about this ministry and your gifts that make it possible.
